Top Workout Timer Countdown Apps

After trying 10 different workout countdown apps for the Ipad, there were a lot with very limited features unless you pay money. But a couple were very effective, and free. Read on to find out the best apps available for free. By using these apps, you’ll be able to time your rest periods to get the maximum benefit from your workouts.

In our previous article, Optimum Rest Period Between Sets, we found that rest periods between sets should be 3 minutes if possible, or 2 minutes if you don’t have time for 3 minute rests. This will ensure that your muscles recover a solid amount of energy before your next set.

These apps are made to count down your rest periods, with minimal disruption from ads or unnecessary features. Lets get straight to the best ones:

Ipad Countdown App

Best Countdown is available for free from Itunes and it gets the job done. The only real negatives are that it only does one thing, countdowns, and the music is not customizable (I would prefer a beep, personally). It is still very worth using though.

This one is a webpage rather than an app, so to use it I would recommend opening the webpage (Countdown Webpage) in Safari in the Ipad, then bookmarking the page to your home screen, then it will open similarly to an app. This one is also limited to the countdown function, no bells and whistles. It is easy to use, and the one limitation is that the beep sound works on computer, but doesn’t play on the Ipad, so you’ll have to watch the timer for when your rest time or workout time is over.

I trust this article will save you from downloading 10 countdown timer apps, only to find that 8 are full or ads or dysfunctional. Just remember to target 2-3 minute rest periods between your sets so you have enough strength to complete maximum reps.
